A little of this, and that

We’re psyched here at The River Reporter.

The 50th Anniversary Commemorative cards have arrived.  Just in time for the busy 50th anniversary season, the cards will be on sale through local businesses and organizations. And we’ll be hawking them at area festivals, farmers' markets and anywhere where people gather.

A collaboration between The River Reporter and the Bethel Business Association, these boxed playing cards are an exciting venture supporting and promoting local businesses. Together we crowd-sourced the production of the decks, and now we move into the phase of selling them, which is designed as a large multi-community fundraising opportunity.

Local is just so important these days – because, well, it’s all our livelihoods and the basis of community resilience.

And speaking of community resilience and working together, we’re proud to announce a new online ticketing platform — MyRiverTickets.com.

This local ticketing platform is the brainchild of a newspaper publisher from Northern Michigan. She was frustrated that her newspaper was publishing free listings and press releases about all sorts of events and then sending her readers to national sites like Eventbrite, who then was collecting fees from her readers. She developed a platform that worked in conjunction with the paper. Suddenly her readers could read a press release and immediately go and purchase tickets.

I learned about her platform at the New York Press Association’s Spring Convention. And am delighted to have launched it in connection with The River Reporter last week.

Early adopters include the Weekend of Chamber Music, the Sullivan County Dramatic Workshop and the Narrowsburg Fire Department.  We look forward to adding new tickets and venues in the weeks ahead.  We’ll be sending out newsletters announcing the new ticket opportunities each week.

It really is a win-win as this robust platform gives organizations opportunities to build a mailing list and keep track of everyone who buys tickets and comes to events. In my wildest dreams, it is also has the capacity to serve as a one-stop calendar of events. And, it supports the paper.

Last,, but not least, we’ll be launching a new website next month. The new site will house over 20-year of newspaper archives and have increased capacity for event listings, dining guides (complete with menus, videos and pictures) and sponsored articles.

Our industry is changing. The good news is that we are changing with it.

Producing and supporting a single-flag newspaper has never been easy. I am particularly thankful to industry leaders who are pooling their resources and extending technology to us all.

Local, and specifically to us, local journalism, is so important in our globalized world.

We're doing what we can to build resilience. And we're so thankful for your support.

Check out MyRiverTickets.com and give Taylor a call at 845/252-7414, ext. 130 if you've got any kind of tickets for sale.  And stop by if a commemorative pack of playing cards in in your future.
