NARROWSBURG, NY — “A Sense of Place,” an exhibit of collage by Fran Cox, opens with a reception on Friday, July 13 from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Delaware Arts Center’s Alliance Gallery at 37 Main St. The show will be on view through August 4.

“My work is abstract with a hint of a place,” said visual artist and writer Fran Cox of her collage work. “They look three-dimensional but are flat, insisting on the realm of the imagination. There is a tension between inside and outside not unlike the tension felt while watching someone opening an envelope.”

Cox, who lives in Warwick with her husband, creates a sense of visual space built from color shapes, elements of architecture, scale and depth. Her collage work is comprised of acrylic paint, pencil, zeroxes and photos. Her work has been exhibited at The Brooklyn Museum of Art, A.I.R. Gallery, Pratt Graphic Center, The Riverside Museum and East Hampton Guild Hall, as well as The Rugg Road Gallery in Boston.

“The pieces hold the essence of an experience, glimpsed for a moment out of the corner of the eye,” she said, “like the rapidly changing images in the side-view mirror of a car.”

Free and open to the public, the exhibit is sponsored by the Delaware Valley Arts Alliance, the Arts Council for Sullivan County, NY, and is made possible in part by a grant from the New York State Council on the Arts with the support of Governor Andrew Cuomo and the New York State Legislature.

Hours are Tuesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
