‘Pulling Prints’ 

NARROWSBURG, NY — Delaware Valley Arts Alliance (DVAA) kicks off its 2020 exhibition series with “Pulling Prints,” a curated group printmaking show opening on Saturday, February 8 with an opening reception from 3 to 5 p.m. at DVAA, located at 37 Main St. An artists’ talk will take place on Tuesday, February 18 from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. in the gallery.

“Pulling Prints” will be on view in DVAA’s Alliance Gallery through Saturday, March 14. The exhibition and related events are free and open to the public.

 The exhibition “Pulling Prints” will showcase printmaking in all its artistic forms: woodcuts, mono prints, etching, aquatint, silkscreen/serigraphs, lithography, linocuts and even solar-based prints. This celebration of mediums and images by guest curator Judith Bodman, a printmaker herself, includes prints from 55 printmakers, both new and established, far and wide and each with their own style and printmaking media.

First Friday Art Walk

HONESDALE, PA — The Wayne County Arts Alliance (WCAA) is presenting new art exhibits at its two Art-a-Pelago Galleries opening on Friday, February 7.

“Masks en Masse” is too large for one space and is split between the Paros Gallery at DJ Harvey Agency and the Anafi Gallery at Bodhi Tree. The Paros Gallery is located at 815 Main St. and open from 8:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. The Anafi Gallery is located at 214 6th St. and open from 4 to 8 p.m. Presented in both galleries are a portion of Christopher Peroni’s mask and costume collection, typically American store-bought, vacu-formed masks, circa 1940 through 1980. This exhibit will be on display until Wednesday, April 8. 

Also on view for First Friday are exhibits in Re/Max Wayne (5 to 8 p.m.), Nature’s Grace (10 a.m. to 7 p.m.), Alley Whey (11 a.m. to 7 p.m.) and Irving Cliff Brewery (12 noon to 12 midnight).

‘Dark Beauty’ 

NARROWSBURG, NY — In 2020, artists Daria Dorosh and John Tomlinson are celebrating 50 years of creating art in adjacent studios. “Dark Beauty,” a two person exhibition of work by Dorosh and Tomlinson, opens at Delaware Valley Arts Alliance (DVAA) on Saturday, February 8, with an opening reception from 3 to 5 p.m. The show will be on view at the Alliance Gallery through Saturday, March 14. The. The event is free and open to the public.

The work in the show “Dark Beauty” includes several mediums, such as graphite drawings on polyester and digital animation by Tomlinson; and large digital prints, mappings and wearable textile sculpture by Dorosh. Together, it shows how the concept of dark beauty manifests itself across art, fashion, technology and ecology.

Open auditions for ‘Young Frankenstein’ 

MONTICELLO, NY — Open auditions for the Sullivan County Dramatic Workshop’s production of Mel Brooks’s “Young Frankenstein” will be held at the Nesin Theatre on Saturday, February 8 and Sunday, February 9, from 1 to 5 p.m.  Performance dates are the weekends of August 14 through 16 and 21 through 23 at the Rivoli Theatre in South Fallsburg.

Producer Heather Strauss and director Amy Phillips will ask performers to sing 16 to 32 bars of music in the style of the show, or do a cold reading from the script. They are seeking people with strong dance and movement training.

Sullivan County Philatelic Society meeting

MONTICELLO, NY — The next meeting of the Sullivan County Philatelic Society will be on Saturday, February 8 at 1 p.m. in the Ted Stroebele Recreation Center, located at 2 Jefferson St. There will be a stamp quiz and information session on how to identify rare stamps. There will also be a regular trading session, door prizes and giveaways. Light refreshments will be available.

Sullivan County’s first-ever Poet Laureate

NARROWSBURG, NY — Join Sullivan County’s first-ever poet laureate Mark Blackford and special guests Bizzy Coy and William Fellenberg for a reading on Saturday, February 8 at 2 p.m. at the Tusten-Cochecton Branch of the Western Sullivan Public Library. 

Blackford is a lifelong resident of Sullivan County, having grown up in Monticello and residing currently with his wife and kids in Woodridge. He earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Creative Writing from Valdosta State University (GA, 2010), and after a brief foray into education decided to pursue the craft of writing instead. His prior work has appeared in WayMark: Voices of the Valley, Odradek, and the Calling All Poets Series (CAPS) Anthology: 2014. He has work forthcoming in the CAPS 20th Anniversary Anthology, as well as in Forbidden Peak Press.  In 2019 he was awarded the high honor of being Sullivan County’s first Poet Laureate. Make maple syrup in your backyard

PORT JERVIS, NY — On Tuesday, February 11 at 6 p.m., the Hub invites Cindy Coker and Fred Harding to present a program for beginners who want to experiment with producing maple syrup from the trees in their backyard. Harding and Coker have been tapping trees in their backyard for several years and say, “It’s fun, relatively easy and can be done inexpensively.” 

Attendees will learn which trees are the best to tap and how to identify them, the basic equipment needed and where to get it, and the methods of boiling the sap into syrup.  The class will also cover the do’s-and-don’ts and the many ways to use your own maple syrup.
