Bethel Woods officially announces Woodstock 50th plans

Bethel Woods officially announced today that it will host a Music and Culture Festival this August, on the 50th anniversary of the historic 1969 Woodstock music festival.

Confirming earlier reports, Bethel Woods said that the festival, which will take place August 16 to 18, will be co-hosted by live entertainment company Live Nation and INVNT, a global communications agency. There is no lineup for the event yet, but a press release from Bethel says that it “will include live performances from prominent and emerging artists spanning multiple genres and decades,” as well as TED-style talks from leading futurists and retro-tech experts.

Rumors have been circulating in the last few months about what Bethel Woods has planned for the anniversary, with some speculation that it would be called “Journey On,” and questions over whether it would be a collaborative effort with the original producers. On Twitter, Bethel Woods said that Michael Lang, one of the original Woodstock organizers, will not have anything to do with the Music and Culture Festival.

During the festival, there will also be an art exhibit called “We are Golden: Reflections on the 50th Anniversary of the Woodstock Festival and Aspirations for an Aquarian Future.”

“Fifty years ago, people gathered peacefully on our site inspired to change the world through music,” said Bethel’s CEO Darlene Fedun in a release. “As the stewards of this historic site, we remain committed to preserving this rich history and spirit, and to educating and inspiring new generations to contribute positively to the world through music, culture and community.”
