Callicoon

Posted

Callicoon, originally named Collikoon, for the Dutch and Chokataw word for turkey, is a lively hamlet featuring some of the best views of the Delaware.

As a librarian, bartender and performer, Raina Bowers is a familiar face amongst Callicoon visitors and residents. “I love to read by the river, flow and fire spin by the river. Taking a nice walk along River Road, it’s a great place to look for wildlife.

“I love how small yet strong the community is here. The local businesses are so unique. Everyone is so happy, and I think that’s why there’s so many events. We have the country fair that happens every year, along with the art walk and Dickens on the Delaware... the whole town is just a big fun fair. You cannot miss the tractor parade. And I’ve been hearing about this Porchfest that might be happening… There’s a lot of variety in Callicoon. There’s always music playing. It’s never a dull weekend.”
