‘Earth Day 2020’ call to artists

NARROWSBURG, NY — The Narrowsburg Union, in collaboration with the Upper Delaware Council, The Upper Delaware Scenic Byway and the National Park Service, is calling for entries for “Earth Day 2020,” an exhibition of works created from recycled materials. All mediums made from, or made on, recycled materials are welcome.

The call for artwork is open to all artists who have a connection to the Upper Delaware River Valley. Submissions can be made through Wednesday, April 15; drop-off is Sunday, April 19.

Interested artists should submit up to eight images of their pieces by email to curator@narrowsburgunion.com, along with the artist’s name, contact information (phone number, email and physical address), the title of the work(s), medium, dimension and year created. Extended descriptions of the recycled materials are welcome.

Chosen artists should be prepared to submit an artist’s statement, deliver and pick up work on assigned dates, and have their work framed or ready to display.

The exhibition opening is Saturday, April 25. Following the opening, “Earth Day 2020” will run through Saturday, June 6. Exhibitions are free and open to the public. While the show dates and opening reception are set, public health concerns may require adjustments.

Catskills food hub going strong through coronavirus crisis

LIBERTY, NY — Catskills Food Hub will celebrate its first full year of business in April and things are growing. In November, the Hub launched their retail program for individuals to purchase healthy, regional food while supporting area producers.

The retail program expands the reach of regional foods year-round and has been well received by both buyers and producers. Recently, with concerns around the COVID-19 crisis, the Hub chose to stay open and were surprised to see retail sales triple in one week.

“We realized there must be a need for this kind of service where folks can order online and pick-up in a safe way, with minimal interaction,” said Cat Wilson, Executive Director of the Hub.

The retail program is easy to access and utilize. New retail customers can sign up by going to the Catskills Food Hub website at www.catskillsfoodhub.org; click “buy retail” to create an account.  Orders are due between 10 a.m. on Friday and 12 noon Monday. An order confirmation will be issued on Monday, and orders can be picked up at the Hub in Liberty on Wednesday.

There is no cost to sign up. The Hub has safety protocols in place for customers to pick up their order without having to enter the building.
