HAWLEY, PA — Environmentally minded citizens from across the Upper Delaware region turned out in force Saturday, June 25 for a cleanup along the Lackawaxen River.
The cleanup was organized by Keep Hawley-Honesdale Beautiful in cooperation with Housefly Fishing, the Upper Delaware Council and the Sea Scouts of BSA.
Two groups of volunteers marked by florescent yellow T-shirts participated in the cleanup, some with kayaks and canoes, others with waders and swimming goggles. A small group started at the Honesdale CVS and proceeded along the Lackawaxen towards White Mills, while a group of several dozen started at Housefly Fishing in Hawley and proceeded along the Lackawaxen from there.
The operation netted around 25 tires, around a dozen bags of assorted trash and a large number of assorted items, including rusted scooters and bicycles, a parking meter and a side panel from a child’s pirate ship playhouse. All trash was picked up by MMM Waste Removal and by Hawley Borough.
