I painted this piece, titled “Mind Travel,” during the early spring of 2020, when the only travel that people were doing was through the internet, books, television, or one’s own imagination. I portrayed this figure wearing a mask because masks had become a part of our everyday outfit. It didn’t seem complete to make a picture about life during the pandemic without covering peoples’ faces with a mask.
