Retro kitchen trends

Decorative flooring: patterns, colors and designs can make a room fun to look at and walk around in. Better Homes and Gardens suggests authentic linoleum in nostaligic patterns, such as “mod ‘atomic’ patterns, colorful speckles and earth-tone brick.”

Retro color schemes: Don’t be afraid to go bold! Oranges, hot pinks, yellows and turqouise shades can contribute to a kitchen that inspires creativity and boldness. Pastel colors are also in, according to www.realtor.com. Light pinks, blues and off-white cremes can make a dreamy scene.

Penny tile: The small, penny-shaped tile is great for flooring or backplash. Find a vintage pattern and pair it with muted colors.

Bold accent colors: These can be simple pickups at a flea market or local antique shop, such as a vibrant yellow tea kettle or a pastel pink set of Fiesta ice cream dishes.

Pendant lighting: Lights that hang from the ceiling for better illumination. For a look that’s farmhouse vintage, use brass or tin, with caging around the light bulb. Click here for a DIY pendant-pulley light.

Retro appliances: Who says new technology is always better? Make toasters cute again—and make them pink!
