HURLEYVILLE, NY — The Hurleyville Arts Centre is presenting “Ephrat Asherie Dance (EAD): Workshop and Performance” on Friday and Saturday, October 4 and 5. Admission costs $30 and includes the workshop. The workshop alone can be taken for $20.
On Friday, October 4 from 6 to 7:30 p.m., a street and social dance multi-generational workshop will be held at the Hurleyville Arts Centre. The workshop was created to inform, connect and bring individuals from all generations together through street and social dance. Performing dance sequences from EAD repertory, members from the company will demonstrate and lead this movement workshop. The workshop draws from various styles including breaking, hip hop, house and vogue as a means to help participants move out of their comfort zone, find new modes of expression and connect with one another.
The show on Saturday, October 5 will showcase Ephrat “Bounce”Asherie, a New York City based Bgirl, dancer and choreographer, and her company Ephrat Asherie Dance. The work is set to the music of Brazilian composer Ernesto Nazareth, known for mixing early 20th century romantic music with samba and other popular AfroBrazilian rhythms.
