A very dapper Jim Purcell is pictured here, all decked out for the Narrowsburg, NY centennial in July 1953.
Jim was sporting a beard, because one of the centennial events was a contest to see who could grow the best beard in town.
The photo was taken at what is now Landers Campground. In 1953, however, it was the location of the airport in Narrowsburg.
From the collection of the Tusten Historical Society.
