HONESDALE, PA — The Wayne County Arts Alliance (WCAA) announced its newest exhibit “November/2020,” opening Thursday, November 5 at its Main Street Gallery, featuring the paintings and sculptures of husband and wife artists Tom and Jane Biron. They share more than just a last name; they’ve both been addicted to making art for the last 30 years.

“November/2020” will be open to the public until Saturday, November 28, Thursdays through Saturdays from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. The Main Street Gallery is located at 959 Main Street (upstairs at Missing Pieces). Masks and social distancing are required.

‘Trail of Tales’: candy-filled, drive-through event

BEACH LAKE, PA — On Sunday, November 1 from 3 to 4:30 p.m., the Beach Lake United Methodist Church will hold Trail of Tales, a modified version of its annual Halloween event for the community. People of all ages are invited to drive through the church parking lot and experience Trail of Tales from the comfort of their car. Beach Lake United Methodist Church is located behind the Beach Lake Fire Hall and visible from Pennsylvania Route 652.

At Trail of Tales, as cars enter the church parking lot, the driver will be given a “passport” that includes the names of several Bible characters. Cars will be guided to different stations around the parking lot featuring these Bible characters. Each character will present a brief story about his or her life. After each presentation, attendees will receive a sticker to apply to their passport. Once cars have met all the featured Bible characters, they will present their completed passports to the last station. Cars will be rewarded with a prepackaged bag of candy for each participant.

Beach Lake United Methodist Church holds in-person worship services that observe CDC guidelines at 7:55 a.m. and 10:15 a.m. every Sunday.

Solo sculptor exhibit from CAS

LIVINGSTON MANOR, NY — Catskill Art Society (CAS) will present a solo exhibition from the Beacon-based sculptor Matt Harle from Saturday, October 31 through Saturday, December 5 at CAS Arts Center, located at 48 Main St. Harle will present a selection of work made over the last 30 years, illustrating the artist’s long-term commitment to intuition, handmade processes and material exploration.

The artist interacts with a variety of mediums exploring the materiality of wood, frosted mylar, fabric, cast rubber and cement. The works in the exhibition range in size from a clay brick to a swath of glossy fabric the size of a small car. The works, whether large or small, are stabilized mainly by tension and gravity and highlight Harle’s skill at construction as well as his ability to capture, in his own words, “a state of suspension, simultaneously solid and ephemeral, where the wave is always breaking but never quite reaching the shore.”

Matt Harle lives and works in the Hudson Valley in Beacon, NY, and has been making work consistently for the past three decades. He has received a Pollock-Krasner Foundation grant, and fellowships at the MacDowell Colony and Yaddo. Harle received his MFA in sculpture from Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture.

New procedures and protocols will be in place to ensure the safety of our visitors, artists and staff. Masks are required for entry, social distancing of six feet is encouraged, and capacity is limited.

‘Rocky Horror Picture Show’ on Halloween

CALLICOON, NY — On Saturday, October 31, the Callicoon Theater is holding a fundraiser to keep its doors open with two showings of the cult-classic “Rocky Horror Picture Show” at 7:30 and again at 10:30 p.m.

The showings will feature a live cast of actors miming the movie, and there will be props for audience participation.

The event is planned with everyone’s safety in mind. Seats are capped to 25 per showing and your props will be included with your ticket. Tickets cost $35.

‘Ghosts of the Arlington Hotel’

NARROWSBURG, NY — On Friday and Saturday, October 30 and 31, the Delaware Valley Arts Alliance (DVAA) will present a guided mobile production “Ghosts of the Arlington Hotel.” Tours will take place every 10 minutes from 6 to 8:30 p.m. The limit is six people per tour.

Performance collective The Fête will lead two evenings of theatrical performance inspired by local lore in one of the oldest hotel buildings in the region. Pods of guests will make their way through the old Arlington Hotel to meet local spirits JG Gutheil and Tom Quick, and their fellow haunted souls for an evening of spooky conjurings and celebrations. Runtime is 20 minutes per tour.

This show is appropriate for ages 12 and up. Strobe lights, low lighting conditions, creepy sounds and images are used in this production and may not be suited for all audiences. Audience members will be asked health and safety questions at the door and will have their temperature taken. Masks are mandatory while in the building. Concessions will be available by donation. Admission is $20 per person.

Friday night’s performance will be presented in conjunction with “Haunted on Main” held along Narrowsburg’s Main Street and featuring outdoor dining, a socially distanced dance party, chili and bake off, and extended hours at Narrowsburg’s Main Street businesses.

Free classes this week from SUNY Sullivan

Healthy Living for Your Brain & Body: Tips from Latest Research will take place on Thursday, November 5 at 4 p.m.

Animal tracking

DINGMANS FERRY, PA — The Pocono Environmental Education Center (PEEC) is hosting a walk with a focus on tracking animals. While exploring the trails of PEEC, learn how to look for tracks, territory marks, chew marks and other signs animals leave.

‘Octobercast’: a fun-filled day for anglers

LIVINGSTON MANOR, NY — On Saturday, October 31, the Catskill Fly Fishing Center & Museum is hosting a fun-filled day of casting (bring your own rod), kids’ activities, an angler’s market and more. The rain date for this event is Saturday, November 7.

The cost is $25 for adults, $8 for those under 18 and kids are admitted for free. Tickets include entry and a food plate from the Octobercast pig roast. Masks and social distancing are required. A tribute to the Civil War

SHOHOLA, PA — On Wednesday, November 4, Dennis Lee will present his production of “A Tribute to the Civil War” which he also directed. ‘Dead Time Stories’

Holiday gift basket fundraiser

HONESDALE, PA — Having to fundraise differently this year, the Grace Episcopal Church is doing a holiday gift basket project. Proceeds from the sale of the gift baskets for kids, teens, and adults will help with the costs of the church’s operation and extensive outreach.

The gift baskets and other holiday items can be seen by appointment only in the St. Nicholas Parlor of the church’s St. James House at 210 9th St. For an evening or weekend appointment, call Sue Erb on weekends or after 4:30 p.m. weekdays at 570/241-2684 or email suerb@aol.com.

Masks and hand sanitizing required and only one person or two family members will be allowed in at one time for social distancing reasons.

Order forms also are available for fruitcakes and quarts of two types of chili as well as creamy macaroni and cheese to be picked up in early December. Proceeds from that project also benefit the operation and outreach of the church.
