GOSHEN, NY — A $10,000 grant from WellCare Health Plans, Inc. has helped Catholic Charities of Orange, Sullivan and Ulster further its mission to provide help and create hope for neighbors in need.

Catholic Charities is using the funds to provide emergency food and shelter assistance to WellCare members and other individuals and families who are facing financial hardship. Through this partnership, Catholic Charities is helping WellCare members and others connect to community resources and navigate the local social-support network in order to receive the care and resources they need to enjoy a better quality of life. This includes addressing food insecurity through a client-choice food pantry in Kingston, access to baby products and hygiene items, addiction prevention and treatment services, housing resource support and help with other basic necessities of life.

MONTICELLO, NY — Catholic Charities of Orange, Sullivan and Ulster has been the recipient of more than 300 pounds of fresh, organic produce cultivated at New Hope Community’s Hope Farm. The produce, harvested at the farm located on the SUNY Sullivan campus in Loch Sheldrake, is used to supplement and enhance the menu provided at Catholic Charities residential programs in Monticello. As part of the program, Catholic Charities clients have helped harvest some of the vegetables that later ended up on their plates.

“A fresh, wholesome diet plays an important role in a person’s overall health and well-being, especially when people are recovering from addiction, which has put so much stress on the body.” said Dr. Michael Weddle, Catholic Charities medical director. “Having produce fresh from the farm adds an important aspect to the treatment plan.”
