Heister bids a fond farewell

BEACH LAKE, PA -- Word has just been received that Upper Delaware Scenic and Recreational River Superintendent Kristina Heister is officially leaving the Upper Delaware. She has been the acting deputy superintendent of Gettysburg National Military Park for the last several months.

This is the letter that she sent to Upper Delaware partners on April 17.

A fond farewell

I have enjoyed working with you all over the last six years as the Superintendent of Upper Delaware Scenic and Recreational River! This is such a special place - full of incredible resources, communities, and people. Effective June 7, 2020, I have accepted the position of Deputy Superintendent at Gettysburg National Military Park and Eisenhower National Historic Site. While I am sad to be leaving the Upper Delaware, it is an exciting opportunity to serve in a leadership role in one of our nation's most iconic parks and work to protect sites that are central to the preservation of the United States, telling the American story, and are loved and treasured by the American people. It is also an opportunity to be close to my 85+ year old parents and family and friends.

The work you all do is so important and the web of partnerships that has formed in the Upper Delaware is a unique structure that brings government entities, various organizations, communities, and individuals together on common ground to make sure that future generations are able to enjoy a clean, beautiful, ecologically and economically valuable river system. I wish you the very best in continuing this work in the interest of both our communities and the American public.

I hope you all are well and remain safe in this difficult and uncertain time.

Kristina M. Heister
Deputy Superintendent
Gettysburg National Military Park and
Eisenhower National Historic Site
