Borough not considered for stormwater grant

HONESDALE, PA — The multi-million dollar project to address various stormwater issues facing the Borough of Honesdale remains unfinanced for the time being. Councilor and grants committee chair James Jennings was disappointed to report at the October 5 meeting that the borough will not be receiving the “H2O grant” it had applied for, sending the borough “back to the drawing board.”

On the plus side, Jennings said that he recently attended a design committee meeting with the Greater Honesdale Partnership for its ongoing downtown revitalization study. The revitalization efforts will include pedestrian safety, parking, walkability and downtown design. He added that a meeting will be held in the near future to receive public comment on the study and proposed improvements to the downtown area.

Later, Jennings, who is also the chair of the parks and recreation committee, discussed the parks and recreation’s hope to build a “bandshell” stage in Honesdale Central Park, saying that it could help modernize and improve the central park experience.

Solicitor Richard Henry said he would have recommendations on the project by the next council meeting.

In other parks and rec news, Jennings said that the committee is also looking to create a more cohesive experience, update signage, among other improvements to the north borough complex encompassing Veterans Park, the Honesdale Pool and Apple Grove and that a subcommittee will be seeking input from the public.
