Things start rolling

There are so many great things happening in our little Honesdale. The sun has peeked its head out from behind the rain clouds; this is the time of year where things start rolling, and it is so hard to choose what to do each day of the week.

Thursday offers two opportunities to flex your creative muscles and learn a new craft. Open to both teens and adults, the Wayne County Library has a new knitting and crocheting for beginners class at 10 a.m. every Thursday. During the evening, chat with other stitchers and bring your questions to the bi-weekly embroidery circle, upstairs at The Cooperage every other Thursday at 6 p.m., beginning on May 30.

On Friday, May 17, head out to Old School Farm for the season’s opening night. What is better than live music, delicious wood-fired artisan pizza and hanging out with good company al fresco? Their wood-fired oven is ready to go at 5:30, and the music goes until 10 p.m., rain or shine. What a great way to start off the weekend and enjoy some time outdoors.

Prior to The Elements Lakewood Music and Arts Festival slated for Memorial Day weekend, don’t miss their unique pre-party experience on Saturday, May 18 at The Cooperage. Bring your dancing shoes and experience the magic of a silent disco. Don a pair of head phones, choose from a variety of music stations and join in the silent dance party. This event features DJs from the festival lineup, roving performing artists in costume, art installations and many other surprises.

Sunday, May 19, is jam-packed with events in our community for all interests. Learn about your favorite crystals and how they can benefit your daily life at the crystal basics workshop at Irving Cliff Brewery at 1 p.m. Then head over to Yoga International Studio at 3 p.m. for yoga play for adults with Amanda Masters. This workshop, for adults only, will give you a taste for how to explore yoga practice with kids. You will practice partner and group poses, play games and experience creative mindfulness.

Finally, grab some dinner at Dyberry Forks as they feature their prix fixe Sunday Supper menu (three courses for only $25) before heading over to The Cooperage at 7 p.m. for the next in the RiverFolk Concert series: a live performance by NYC veteran songwriter Cliff Eberhardt with special guest Americana songwriter Louise Mosrie.

If that isn’t a great weekend line up, I don’t know what is. It’s amazing what Honesdale has to offer. Now that the weather is perking up, the opportunities to explore our town are endless. Get out there, walk the streets, pop into a new shop, bring the kids to the park and grab a bite to eat. Don’t forget to see the new Great Wall of Honesdale! This project by the Wayne County Arts Alliance recently unveiled 12 new art pieces on the wall along Fourth Street. Visit the Bodhi Tree for the additional exhibit “Off the Wall” and to purchase their new 12-month calendar fundraiser featuring each art print from the wall.
