Sounds like spring spirit

Spring poked its head out ever so slightly last week, and the sun’s energy is charging up the community! Our region really shines in the warmer months. The thought of walking on Main Street in Honesdale without a hat, scarf and heavy coat is very exciting. March, in my humble opinion, is ideally spent preparing for the warmer months, not digging out of blizzards like the last few years. You’ll find quite a few workshops and learning opportunities for things like gardening and composting this time of year.

This week in Honesdale, the teen open mic night Sounds Like Teen Spirit returns to The Cooperage on March 22 from 7 to 9 p.m. Sounds Like Teen Spirit is a collaboration with the Wayne Highlands School District Keep on Rockin’ Club and gives students the opportunity to take the stage at The Cooperage to sing, play an instrument, or even read poetry!

Saturdays in Honesdale are usually bustling. Think about starting your day focusing on local food at the Honesdale Library’s Food For Thought series to learn about care and pruning of backyard fruit trees from Roger Hill. local farmer of Treeline Farms and orchard manager for O’Neill’s Orchard in Pleasant Mount.

There are some fun evening events taking place as well, including the Penn State Scholarship Murder Mystery Party happening at Silver Birches in Hawley or, if you missed the String Fling in Scranton last weekend, enjoy the bluegrass music of Dave Brown and the Dishonest Fiddlers at The Cooperage.

If none of these events are of interest to you, then grab a bottle of water, go on a hike up Irving Cliff and see Honesdale from a different view! Get out, inject some joy into your week and learn something!
