Karen Ann Quinlan Hospice butterfly release celebration set to soar

ONLINE — Karen Ann Quinlan Hospice will host its 21st annual Butterfly Release Celebration with a virtual event held via Zoom on Sunday, June 13 at 2 p.m.

Participation begins with the purchase of a butterfly for $20 in the name of a loved one. Included in the purchase is a memorial keepsake that will be sent along with a personalized acknowledgment card to the designated recipient.

Monarch sponsors donating $100 receive a stunning butterfly suncatcher (a new design in the series is featured annually). Viceroy sponsors donating $200 will also receive the 2021 suncatcher and are also invited to send along a photo of their loved ones to be featured within the virtual presentation and in the event program. Viceroy sponsors will also receive a DVD of the Zoom presentation.

Pattern for Progress hosts fundraiser as a seven-part tour of Hudson Valley cultural venues

NEW YORK — Pattern for Progress is hosting its annual fundraiser during the month of June as a seven-part tour of some of the Hudson Valley region’s “most spectacular” art spaces, music venues and gardens.

The events will be small, socially distant gatherings at cultural sites throughout the region to celebrate the arts in the outdoors. Each event will welcome guests from 5 to 7 p.m., providing networking, unique entertainment and a private experience at Hudson Valley cultural sites conveniently located in seven of the region’s nine counties: Millbrook Vineyards & Winery (Dutchess County) on Tuesday, June 15; Hammond Museum & Japanese Stroll Garden (Westchester County) on Wednesday, June 16; GARNER Arts Center (Rockland County) on Thursday, June 17; Art Omi (Columbia County) on Tuesday, June 22; The Samuel Dorsky Museum of Art (Ulster County) on Wednesday, June 23; Bethel Woods Center for the Arts (Sullivan County) on Monday, June 28; and Storm King Art Center (Orange County) on Tuesday, June 29.

Song exchange at Farm Arts Collective

DAMASCUS, PA — Farm Arts Collective will be hosting a song exchange on Saturday, June 12 from 3 to 6 p.m. Singers at all levels are invited to attend this free event. Bring a song to share and teach to each other. Songs from around the world, folk songs and original music are all welcome and encouraged.  Songs can be shared in whatever form of transmission is most comfortable for participants, whether it’s a cappella or with or without sheet music.

This free event will take place in the courtyard at Farm Arts Collective greenhouse on Willow Wisp Organic Farm, located at 38 Hickory Ln. It will be led by musician and music therapist Katie Down and theatre artist Tannis Kowalchuk.

’UpRIVER Landscapes’ gallery and workshop

NARROWSBURG, NY — Zane Grey Plein Air presents a PopUp Gallery event featuring UpRIVER Landscapes painted locally by guest artist Eric Jacobsen, nationally recognized plein air artist from Maine. Eric is a member of PAPA (Plein Air Painters of America) and a signature member of the American Impressionist Society. His show will be on display this weekend, June 11 to June 13, from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Blue Fox Motel, located at 5670 Rte. 97. A reception to meet the artist will take place Saturday, June 12 from 6 to 9 p.m.

The workshop will take place over three full days at three scenic locations on the Delaware River, beginning in Narrowsburg on Friday, June 11. From there, participants will move on to Butchie’s Organic Farm in Cochecton on Saturday, June 12. Sunday, June 13 will take place in Callicoon.

The 10-Minute Play Festival

SOUTH FALLSBURG, NY — The Sullivan County Dramatic Workshop (SCDW) will open its doors for its 2021 season with The 10-Minute Play Festival. The show will hit the Rivoli Theatre on Friday, June 11 and run for six performances through Saturday, June 20.

Produced by Jenny Silverman and directed by Harold Tighe, The 10 Minute Play Festival brings you two weekends of original plays written by playwrights local and beyond. Each weekend will feature a different set of plays, none longer than 10 minutes. Playwrights include John Bavaso, Bill Duncan, Sally Gladden, David Guaspari, Carlos Holden, Pamela Morgan, Marj O’Neill-Butler, Rich Orloff, Marc Paykuss, Lynne Porter, Keith Prince, Arianna Rose and Teri Schwartz. LIBERTY, NY — The Southern Fried Soul Stage, located at 1868 Rte. 52, will be hosting father and son jazz duo Tom and Tommy Brendel on Saturday, June 12 from 5 to 8 p.m.

Never-before-seen images from the ’60s and ’70s

NARROWSBURG, NY — On Saturday, June 12 from 5 to 8 p.m., the Narrowsburg Union is hosting the opening reception for Mark Goff’s “A New Lens of the Counterculture,” a photo exhibit featuring never-before-seen photos from the ’60s and ’70s.

Mark Goff’s skills as a photographer began to unfold while serving in the U.S. Navy during the War in Vietnam aboard the USS Kitty Hawk aircraft carrier. The exhibit will feature powerful images from major gatherings, demonstrations and rallies of the 1960s and 1970s, including the Chicago War Protest, the Washington Mobilization and Anti-Inauguration marches of 1969, the 1967 March on the Pentagon, the Alternative Media Conference of 1970 and other singular moments. With press credentials and onstage access, Goff also covered the 1969 Woodstock Festival, and his photographs of the iconic festival, its artists and fans, will be of particular interest to Sullivan County residents and music fans everywhere

‘Queer Gardening’

HURLEYVILLE, NY — The Hurleyville Performing Arts Centre (HPAC) will host local theatre director and landscape gardener Mimi McGurl for a presentation of “Queer Gardening,” an exploration of queerness and sexual identity as they relate to gardening and plant life.

Beginning with some basic science about the mating habits of flowers, the talk will consider the range of flowers historically associated with gay and lesbian identity, and will end with a re-imagining of the biblical Garden of Eden.

This outdoor, in-person event will take place Sunday, June 13 at 2 p.m. and will last 40 minutes in total. Food and beverages will be available for purchase. Tickets cost $10.

‘Off the Wall’

HONESDALE, PA — The Wayne County Arts Alliance has announced the opening of a new exhibit at its WCAA Main Street Gallery. “Off the Wall” presents the art of 2021’s Great Wall of Honesdale, on display from Thursday, June 10 to Saturday, July 10, with an opening reception on Saturday, June 12 from 4 to 6 p.m. The gallery is open Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays 11-4pm.

The 2021 edition of The Great Wall of Honesdale was installed at the beginning of June and will remain for a full year. Additional artworks by these artists are presented at the “Off the Wall” exhibit. A total of 327 entries were submitted for the 2021 wall. The 12 winning artists are Mark Ciocca, Maxine Davidowitz, Lauren Floden, Janet Gaglione, Edna Gonzalez-Rothenberg, Lauren Kuhn, Amanda Miehle, Mark Partridge, Lou Patrou, Johnny Robinson, Robert Stark and the artist known as /// V.

DVAA accepting applications for Riverfest vendor booths

NARROWSBURG, NY — The Delaware Valley Arts Alliance (DVAA) is now accepting vendor booth applications for the 31st annual Riverfest: DVAA’s celebration of the arts, the Delaware River and the ecosystem that supports it.

The annual event is back as an in-person event and the DVAA is seeking artisans, food vendors and nonprofit organizations to apply for booth space. Space is limited and competitive.

Held on Sunday, July 25 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., this year’s festival will be following recommended New York State COVID-19 Safety guidelines for outdoor street festivals found at www.on.ny.gov/3w4wgWK.

Applications will be accepted through Friday, June 18 and will be juried by a panel of artisans. If selected, a non-refundable fee of $75 ($65 for DVAA members) will be required. (Additional fees may apply for food vendors and double booths. The fee is waived for participating nonprofit organizations.)
