I have a group of friends that live up here that I grew up with in Bellerose Queens and we all go out to dinner together. Last week, we were at the Fosterdale Café for some fried chicken. The café’s winter hours for dinner are 4 to 9 p.m. Thursday through Saturday and 4 to 8 p.m. on Sunday. Danny and Betty Snedeker do a great job. Speaking of Snedekers, I have a new co-worker Roger Snedeker, and he was telling me his grandmother used to write the Fosterdale news back in the day. I took over the Lake Huntington news from Ethel Hulse and I try to keep up her humor, while letting you know where I was out and about, along with what’s going on in the town. I am not a professional writer, I am a volunteer who loves her town and wants to help get the news out there. I also try to make people smile and give them a little laugh.

The Lake Huntington Lake Association would like to give a big thank you to Larry Richardson for mowing the public access to the lake. They are thankful for local people that stand up and help the community.

On Sunday, September 8, the St. Baldricks event at Eldred’s Four Corners raised more than $9,500, although it is still collecting donations through the end of the month. There were 10 head shavers, the youngest was 7-and-three-quarters, and it was his third time shaving. Dr. Jeff Weinstein from Middletown Medical raised more than $1,200. Sullivan County Sherriff Mike Schiff also shaved his head with Rob Doherty. There was a father and son, and, of course, Lee Karasik who shaves every year.

Lou Monetolone goes above and beyond to put this event together to help raise money to fight childhood cancer. Over the last 13 years, Lou, with the help of the community, has raised over $150,000. If you would like to make a donation, the website is www.stbaldricks.org/event.

On Saturday, September 21, its halfway to St. Patrick’s Day from 4:30 to 9 p.m. at the Lakeview Pizzeria—yes, I know George is Italian, but man, can he make a delicious corned beef and cabbage dinner. To make a reservation and for more information, call 845/932-8131.

On Sunday, September 22, the Cochecton Preservation Society is hosting “Coffee, Tea and History.” Guest speakers are Fred Stabbert who will talk about “TREES” and Dr. Nancy Hackett will talk about the one-room school houses of our area. It is free with refreshments and door prizes, rain or shine. For more information, call 845/932-8210 or email cps12726@gmail.com.

Save the date for Saturday, October 5, as the Presbyterian Church Ladies Aid will hold their penny social. Doors open at 11:30 a.m. and calling begins at 12:30 p.m. There will be hot dogs, sauerkraut, water, soda, cake and coffee for purchase after the calling. If you would like to donate lightly used items, please give Vicky Krauss a call at 845/932-8923.
Lou Monteleone would like to thank everyone who made this year’s St. Baldrick’s event a success; every penny counts when it comes to childhood cancer.

Keep smiling and have a great week. You can email me at leeniebeans@citlink.net if you have any news. You can always check me out at www.riverrporter.com in community living.
