I fell asleep in my chair this weekend and woke up at 11:15 p.m., heading to bed, with not such a nice word—I forgot to write my column.

I was exhausted after visiting Sullivan West High School to watch the Harlem Wizards play the teachers on Sunday. I have to say the teachers did a great job, they were fast, and they made a lot of baskets. Not only were the teachers and Wizards talented, but they were hilarious—I loved how they got the kids so involved. The Harlem Wizards travel from school to school to help with fundraisers and saw a great turnout this weekend, with nearly 600 tickets sold and $3,000 raised for the school’s “fun day” in June, as well as school supplies. I had a really good time seeing everyone out and about. It was a great event for the community.

In other news, on Monday, January 14, at 6 p.m. in the town hall, the Cochecton Youth Commission (CYC) is having a sign-up for the subway series game in New York on July 2. For more information on the CYC please follow us on Facebook.

The Lake Huntington Fire Co. would like to thank everyone for coming out and supporting their chicken barbeque. The cooks, servers and ticket sellers all did a great job. Once again, all the yummy chicken sold out. It’s great to see the community support the fire department, a wonderful bunch of people.
