Could Indian Head access be used?

In reference to the issue in the September 13 issue by Fritz Mayer, “Local firefighters want Pond Eddy access point to remain”:

Since the closest access for emergency use is in Barryville, seven miles away, why not ask the owner of Indian Head for a key to its gate and access, 700 yards upriver? It also has an access a short drive downriver at Knights Eddy. I’m sure they would be happy to let emergency vehicles and boats use their convenient access. Try asking and find out. It might be an easier way to go.

Trump tariffs fall on U.S. consumers

Now that Donald Trump has levied a 10% tariff on all things made in China, the next time you go shopping and you find that prices have increased, you have the GOP to thank. The 10% tariff is not paid by China. The 10% tariff is paid by American importers who will pass the price increase on to you, the consumer. The GOP has permitted Donald Trump to take 10% of everything you buy out of your pocket and put it into the Federal government’s pockets.

Republican television ads accuse Democrats of increasing your taxes. Really? The GOP and Donald Trump has just increased your taxes by 10%. And it gets worse: as of January 1 next year, tariffs on Chinese products increase to 25%, affecting your prices on everyday products including electronics, food, tools and housewares. If you like the GOP to keep taking money out of your pocket each time you buy something to put into the Federal government’s pockets, then keep voting for them this November.

Faso shows lack of empathy

Antonio Delgado, congressional candidate, is holding town hall meetings in every county of District 19. He talks about important issues such as protecting the jobs of hundreds of thousands of teachers, healthcare workers, service workers, farmers and factory workers in our area, affordable health care for everyone, women’s rights and how the farmers in our district have been forced to endure the detrimental impacts of bad trade policies and an unfair farm bill.

In contrast, Rep. John Faso demeans his constituents by taking out ads showing his opponent as a shady Afro-American rapper wearing a hoodie whose interests are for New York City. Fortunately these attempts to frame Delgado are failing.

That’s because voters are meeting Delgado, an energetic, good humored Rhodes Scholar who went to Oxford, studied law at Harvard and is an attorney living in Rhinebeck with a wife and two young kids.

Faso insults voters’ intelligence and decency with the grossest form of campaign “trumpery” (look it up in the dictionary. It means rubbish; trash; worthless: deceitful. No joke).

Voters around the district are seeing Faso’s lie.

According to Faso’s website, “While serving in office I developed a reputation as ‘tight-fisted’ (while Mary Frances (his wife) politely refers to it as being frugal).”

But when frugality and tightfistedness translate to not caring about decent education for our youth; not helping women; leaving the sick, aged and poor high and dry; it’s no longer just tightfistedness or frugality—it’s miserliness and lack of empathy. And his record shows it.

Not crazy about Trump—but what’s the alternative?

I try to watch the news fully, knowing they pick and choose each story and the commentaries afterward. I will not defend President Trump, even though I voted for him. I was entertained by his antics on “The Apprentice” and during the first debate, but not so anymore.

However, his views and mine match more closely than the Democrats’ views. I do not understand why the Democrats in general are so hateful toward evangelical Christians, capitalism, free speech (of non-Democrats), the second amendment right to bear arms. Also, why do they think more government programs, rules, regulations and laws are the answer? Why do the Democrats want to help able-bodied adults (especially non-citizens) so much, but their care for the most needy—the disabled, elderly, ailing veterans and babies in their mother’s womb—seem to be lacking? Lastly, why are they so ready to get unrepentant (unreformed felons) criminals back on the streets so fast?

I listen and understand a little, and side more with the Democrats regarding environmental protection and immigrant families staying together at the border, but mostly I just lovingly agree to disagree with them—mainly because it is hard to have a conversation when you’re being told you are an ignorant, prejudiced bigot or worse.

Fear is a liar and hate will blind a person from the truth (Jesus). I tell you the truth (Jesus) will set you free whether you are a Democrat or Republican.
