LIBERTY, NY — The Liberty Diner is celebrating its 30th anniversary, but a murder is going to be committed during the celebration. Be part of the group that helps solve the crime on Sunday, January 26. 

 Big Sky Productions and the Greater Liberty Chamber of Commerce have teamed up to present a murder mystery dinner theatre to help the Liberty Diner with its big celebration.

Tickets, which include dinner and the show, cost $55 in advance and $60 at the door, and are now available at the Liberty Diner. Doors will open at 4 p.m., and the show will start at 4:30 p.m. 

The special murder mystery menu includes salad, entrée, coffee (or tea) and dessert. A cash bar will also be available.

PEEC in the kitchen 

DIGNMANS FERRY, PA — PEEC in the Kitchen is a new cooking class series that will offer participants a peek into the PEEC Dining Hall’s Kitchen for a fun and creative cooking experience with Chef Erin Taylor on Saturday, January 25 from 1 to 3 p.m. The class costs $10. 

Participants will learn basic kitchen skills, tips and tricks of the trade, and make easy, delicious, family friendly meals to satisfy the gourmet culinarian, pickiest eaters, or even strictest dietary concerns. Each class will include an informational hands-on cooking demonstration, recipes for participants to take with them and a family style meal of the items prepared in class.

An evening of poetry 

MONTICELLO, NY — Mark Blackford, Poet Laureate of Sullivan County, will tell stories from his adventures as Poet Laureate on Thursday, January 30 at 6 p.m. He will provide insight into his writing process, discuss the importance of poetry and read recently published works and newly created works from his forthcoming collection “How Not to Drown.” An open-mic period will follow Blackford’s program during which the audience is encouraged to bring poetry to share with everyone.

This free event is at the E.B. Crawford Library and is open to the public.

Winter Salon Series

NARROWSBURG, NY — The Delaware Valley Arts Alliance (DVAA) announces its 2020 Winter Salon Series, featuring free arts events on Saturday afternoons throughout the winter. 

The series kicks off at 2 p.m. on Saturday, January 25 with a presentation of “Constructed Comfort” featuring photographer Ellen Brooks and book artist Stacy Wakefield. Each will present their collaboration on the book “Constructed Comfort” about the primary architecture of childhood fort building.

CineArt Series continues

CALLICOON, NY — The Delaware Valley Arts Alliance and the Callicoon Theater have collaborated to put together a series of independent films “that are strong award contenders.”

The series continues this Friday, January 24 with “A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood” starring Tom Hanks as Mister Rogers. 

The films will screen Fridays through Thursdays nightly at 7:30 p.m., with matinees at 2 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. The Callicoon Theater is closed on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. Admission costs $11 ($9 on Mondays and for matinees) and $8 for children under 12 at all shows.
