NEWBURGH, NY — Following in the footsteps of their Section IX victory over the Wildcats of Livingston Manor on March 1, the Roscoe Blue Devils played the Section XI winners on March 5 at Mount Saint Mary College in the opening round of the state championship.

At the final buzzer, the Killer Bees of Bridgehampton stung the Blue Devils 59-29 in the NYSPHSAA Class D Boys Basketball first-round game of hoops.

Bridgehampton (16-6) announced that it came to play right in the first frame. The Killer Bees swarmed past Roscoe on 12-to-2 run, wrapping up the first half with an impressive 29-11 lead.

Bridgehampton’s senior J.P. Harding proved to be the leader of the pack, netting 24 points for the Killer Bees, on the way to closing in on 1,500 points in his high school career of buckets.

Still all was not bitter for the Blue Devils this season (15-8). Under the guidance of veteran coach Fred Ahart, they picked up their first Section IX title in 21 years.

On Sunday, March 10, Marathon defeated Bridgehampton, 65-60 in the Class D State quarterfinal at the Floyd L. Maines Veterans Memorial Arena in Binghamton, NY.
