You’ll find this eagle observation area and butterfly placard on the byway in Minisink Ford. The observation is dedicated to Barbara Yeaman, the founder of the Delaware Highlands Conservancy and of the butterfly barn, which was in Milanville, PA.

In the last 20 years, the Monarch butterfly population has dwindled from more than one billion to just 150 million, a nearly 82% drop. The Delaware River is a flyway for the annual migration of Northeastern Monarchs from their summer breeding grounds to their wintering roosts in central Mexico.

Efforts have been underway along the byway to raise awareness about monarchs. In fact, the Upper Delaware Scenic Byway, Inc. offers grants that support ideas to increase local monarch habitats. Artist Todd Lantz created a series of butterfly sculptures to raise awareness, one of which is right here at the observation area. Stop by to learn more about local wildlife and, hopefully, see some!
