In yet another health advisory, Sullivan County Public Health Services is alerting anyone who visited Paesano’s Pizzeria in Liberty on August 25, 26, or 27 that they may have been exposed to someone who was actively contagious with COVID-19. Such individuals should contact Public Health Services at 845/292-5910. There are at least seven positive COVID-19 cases associated with the pizzeria—and public health services said that mask-wearing and social distancing rules were not being followed consistently. As of Friday, there were 30 active cases of COVID-19 in the entire county.

Last Thursday, Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced that New York State casinos may finally reopen at 25 percent capacity after being closed since March. In a statement, NYS Sen. With schools reopening in the coming week, Gov. Andrew Cuomo recently announced that New York school districts will be required to provide the Department of Health with daily data on the number of people who have tested positive for COVID-19 in each school. The information will be publicly available on a new online dashboard developed by the Department of Health.

After 23 years, Pennsylvania State Police believe they have new investigatory leads and evidence in a cold case from 1997. More than two decades ago—a structure fire at a residence on River Road in Milanville took the life of 43 year old Patricia Madeline Woll—the fire was ruled arson and the death ruled a homicide, but nobody was ever charged for Woll’s death. Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call the Honesdale State Police at 570/253-7126.

On Thursday of last week, Gov. Tom Wolf and Lt. Gov. John Fetterman once again called on the state’s legislature to legalize adult-use cannabis to help with the state’s economic recovery amid COVID-19. The governor also said that legalization will create more outlets for restorative justice programs in the commonwealth.

Last month, Wayne County was given almost $4 million in federal CARES Act funding—now it  needs to spend it all before the end of the year—any money not used by December will disappear, according to the county commissioners. Last week, the commissioners entered into an agreement with a consulting firm which will manage a CARES Act project to make high-speed internet more available to residents. The commissioners are also reviewing applications from local businesses that have applied for relief through the county’s CARES Act program. Recipients of relief should be announced by late September or early October.
