Wayne County receives 25 questionable mail-in ballots

HONESDALE, PA — The Wayne County Bureau of Elections has received around 25 mail-in ballots with questionable “facial presentations.” In other words, their outer envelopes appear to be either incomplete or incorrectly filled out.

In its last public meeting before the election, the Wayne County Commissioners broke into executive session with solicitor Wendell Kay and directed Kay to further research the issue and make a recommendation on how to treat these ballots.

Under PA’s election code, officials cannot begin opening ballots until 7 a.m. on Election Day. More than 10,000 Wayne County voters have requested mail-in ballots this year, and about 77 percent of those ballots have already been returned.

The deadline to request a mail-in ballot has passed. With the election just days away, it’s been recommended that mail-in voters deliver their ballots directly to the courthouse—either at the dropbox in the lobby or to the elections office itself. Voters can deliver their ballots until 8 p.m. on Election Day. For in-person voters, the finalized list of polling places is available here.
