Wayne County temporarily closes recycling center

WAYNE COUNTY, PA — The Wayne County Commissioners have temporarily closed the Wayne County Recycling Center in Beach Lake in light of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

“Once the governor issued his stay at home order for Wayne County, we decided that while recycling is an important and environmentally-necessary thing to do, if we close the center it will help keep people at home to prevent the spread of the virus,” Commissioners Brian Smith, Joe Adams and Jocelyn Cramer said in a joint statement.

By doing this it also protects county employees at the center who were handling glass, plastic, cardboard, metal and other materials that the coronavirus could live for days on. In addition, by closing the center, it prevents employees from coming into unsafe contact with the public.

In addition to the center off Route 652 in Beach Lake, the municipal drop off containers will also not be available.

The center and municipal drop off locations will reopen as soon as it is deemed the virus is safely contained and normal operations can safely resume.
