HONESDALE, PA — The Wayne County Commissioners last week continued their policy of recognizing the longevity of county employees. “We have unheard of longevity in county employees. It’s unlike anything I’ve seen elsewhere and it’s very noticeable here,” said freshman Commissioner Joseph Adams.

On their agenda, the commissioners accepted the March 2018 retirement notice of Linda Vonson, who has served 20 years as director of the Wayne County Department of Children & Youth; and the December 22 resignation of part-time assistant district attorney Alfred G. Howell, who departed as the office is being reorganized.

The commissioners received a sole $84,291 bid from Grimm Construction for planned fourth-floor court renovations. Deeming it too high upon review, that bid was rejected, and the work was ordered to be re-advertised.

The commissioners dealt with a number of housekeeping issues on December 14, including Emergency Solutions Grant budget transfers of $3,225 from rapid rehousing/rental to financial assistance; and $7,896.72 from rapid rehousing/rental to services.

They approved a revision of overtime and compensatory-time policy limiting the use of compensatory time.

They further approved grant applications to the PA Department of Aging of $104,580 for building safety and food service education programming for the Hawley Senior Center and $7,888 to mitigate walking hazards at the Hamlin Senior Center; and approved the Early Intervention Services fourth-quarter, state fiscal year 2016-17 fiscal report totaling $391,653.
