A concept in bloom: Lackawaxen to explore farmer's market

LACKAWXAEN TOWNSHIP, PA — Lackawaxen residents may have a farmer’s market in Veterans’ Park as soon as May 2025.

Heather Clark, secretary of non-profit Growing Lackawaxen and the township's web designer, introduced the idea at a Board of Supervisors meeting on Monday, September 16.

The farmer's market, as Clark proposed it, would run on Sundays from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., May through October.

Clark said she would need to gauge the interest of potential vendors before going ahead with the market, and set a goal of 10 to 12 vendors for the opening season.

"I think it's a good idea," said Board of Supervisors Chairman Jeffrey Shook. "I see them becoming more and more popular." The Board discussed the success of other local farmers markets, including those in Hawley, in Narrowsburg, NY and in Barryville, NY.

The Board of Supervisors didn't have to vote on the matter, but spent some time discussing the logistics of who would be responsible for the market's cleanliness and organization.

Solicitor Tom Farley suggested Growing Lackawaxen be responsible for the market. The non-profit's mission is to enhance the quality of life throughout Lackawaxen Township, as described on its website.

Shook, who is the treasurer of Growing Lackawaxen, agreed the group could handle the logistics, and said that it would fit well within the organization's mission.
