Ashokan Center to hold first Earth Fest

OLIVEBRIDGE, NY — Birds of prey, education and entertainment will be featured at the Ashokan Center from 12 noon to 4 p.m. on Sunday, April 21. It’s all part of the center’s Earth Fest.

People of all ages are invited to the center for a variety of family-friendly and planet-focused activities throughout the day. There will be a birds-of-prey demonstration at 12:30 p.m., hands-on educational workshops, story readings, nature crafts, art activities, guided hikes and live music by Shokoloko.

Ravensbeard Wildlife Center will host the demonstration, spotlighting their rescued and rehabilitating birds. Ravensbeard provides wildlife rehabilitation for injured, ill and orphaned animals in order to return them back to the wild.

Nature crafts will be available and include a seed ball-making station and hands-on creative workshops. Workshop options include ink-making and birch-bark puppet crafting with local teacher and artist Roberta Ziema, clothes upcycling with Kathy Grassi and nature art with Patty Mooney.

Guests can explore and dredge Ashokan’s ponds with Ashokan’s educators to look for microscopic—yet important—wildlife. The Ashokan Center also offers millions of years’ worth of geological rock formations on a 0.95-mile guided hike to the Cathedral Gorge.

Samosa Shack of Kingston will sell samosas, and other vegetarian food is available.

Ashokan’s all-age tickets cost a suggested price of $20; $10 is the minimum.

Tickets and full details are available at www.ashokancenter.org/earthfest
