LAKE HUNTINGTON, NY — It all boiled down to 35 seconds when, on Tuesday, March 30, the Sullivan West Lady Bulldogs (1-1-1) hosted the Lady Bears of Tri-Valley (0-2-1) in a girls’ varsity soccer match.
In the wake of a scoreless first frame, the second half the action was fast and furious for less than a minute, as both teams beat their opposition’s goalie to put a point in the record books.
Sullivan West’s Anna Bernas scored on an assist from Laura Smith at 4:01, but the home team’s taste of victory was short-lived. Less than a minute later, Celest Ibarro beat the Lady Bulldogs goalie off an assist by Clare Verbert at 4:36 to make it a 1-1 contest.
After 100 minutes of play (two 40-minute halves of regulation competition, plus a couple of mandated 10-minute periods of overtime), the game closed out with a tie on a blustery afternoon.
Stats: shots (SW 19, TV 11), shots on goal (SW 16, TV 7), corner kicks (SW 4, TV 1) and goalie saves (SW’s Riley Ernst 6, TV’s Jordan Costa).
