HIGHLAND, NY — Give Highland a glow-up this spring.

Sullivan County is planning a litter pluck in Highland on Saturday, May 18. Participants may pick up free disposal coupons and program guidelines at town hall (4 Proctor Road, Eldred) or any county-operated transfer station, where they’ll be asked to register when dropping off their trash.

Highland has included one dumpster for tires and will accept four per household.

This popular annual event is coordinated by the county’s Parks, Recreation and Beautification Department and its Division of Public Works.

“Last month’s UDC Litter Sweep was epic,” says the county’s invitation. “We are noticing towns and communities up and down the river engaging in huge numbers, Thank you volunteers, organizers! Can we keep it going? There are two opportunities to help ‘love where you live.’”

Continuing through October 31, residents can pick up coupons to drop off litter bags for free that they collect on local roads. Coupons are available at town hall during regular business hours.

Sullivan County’s Annual Roadside & Trail Litter Pluck launched on April 1st and runs all the way through October 31.

The county legislature waived the disposal fee for roadside and public trail litter at county-operated transfer stations.
