Monticello High School holds concerts

MONTICELLO, NY — The Monticello High School Music Department will produce its annual spring concerts on May 8 and May 9. The Monday concert will be held at Nesin Theater, 22 St. John’s St., at 7:30 p.m. It will feature solo instrumentalists along with small chamber ensembles, all upperclassmen. The second concert will be held at the Arnold Packer Hughs Auditorium at the high school, 39 Breakey Ave. at 7:30 p.m. The jazz band, concert band, chorus and orchestra programs will be performing.

The first recital will include music by Francis Poulanc and Billy Joel, among others. At the second recital, the orchestra will perform Howard Hanson’s “Rhythmic Variations on an Ancient Theme,” an upbeat arrangement of Led Zeppelin’s “Battle of Evermore” and Percy Grainger’s “Molly on the Shore.”

The chorus will perform a variety of music by artists including Israel Kagaruki, Joseph M. Martin and Douglas E. Wagner. The jazz band will perform music by Jerry Lieber and Mike Stoller, Victor Lopez and Jerry Lordan.
