Paula Kay will be the fighter we need

We are Vince and Joanne McPhillips from Liberty, and we are supporting Paula Kay to be our next Assemblymember from the 100th AD.

When we read Jodi Goodman’s letter [in the Sullivan County Democrat], we decided we should add our voices so that we can be good Republicans—but when it comes to our next Assemblymember, we also need to be smart.

We have known Paula for almost 25 years. While we will be voting Republican, we also know when we have to do what’s best for our county because the RIGHT person is running from our own backyard. We will be voting for her on her Independent line, “People Over Politics.”

It’s not a slogan to Paula, it’s what she believes in. She is not a politician, but someone who actually knows how to get things done. We need a fresh face, but one with years of experience helping others.

Paula’s years of experience as a public servant and a lawyer have given her a well-deserved reputation of being tough but fair. She has the backing of law enforcement and labor unions.

Paula has been a town attorney and prosecutor, providing advice and guidance to the benefit of many  Sullivan County residents.

This does not mean that we agree with her on every position, but enough that we are more than comfortable crossing over from the Republican line to have her representing us in Albany.

The Democratic majority in the New York State Assembly is so large that having a Republican would be a waste. Her legal skills will make her a great advocate for the needs of our county within that majority. Sending a Republican means no legislation, no money and no meaningful advocacy. With Paula we have a fighting chance.

To do so, we need someone who has a strong working knowledge of Sullivan County. Someone who can hit the ground running. She has worked for both Aileen and Jake Gunther. She knows her way around Albany and will be the fighter we need.

We are taking a lesson from our kids, who played baseball against each other. We learned back then that you could cheer for your team but also be friendly to the other folks. It’s time we got back to doing just that. This time it’s easy: we are cheering for Paula!

Join us in supporting Paula, a person who can represent us all.
