PA Department of Health concerns spark memories, virality

PENNSYLVANIA — It feels good to know that Pennsylvania only has our best interests in mind.

Today, the state Department of Health—as it regularly does—dropped advice for its many Facebook fans.

For instance, food:

What you eat matters! Try to focus on:

  •  veggies, fruits + whole-grains
  •  low-fat/non-fat milk or dairy products
  •  lean meats, poultry, fish, lentils + beans

Or dealing with heat:

Hot weather can lead to serious heat-related illnesses. Follow these tips to stay safe:

  •  drink lots of water
  •  avoid alcohol
  •  stay cool indoors in AC

Or swimming:

Do NOT swallow pool water.

The last, with 807 comments and counting after two hours, has clearly hit a nerve.

For those in need of reassurance, the DOH has thoughtfully given us documents such as “Public Swimming and Bathing Places (Aquatic Facilities) Operational and Biological Contamination Protocol Recommendations.” Concerned about a contaminant? It might be in there, along with the chemicals to deal with the threat.

The thoughts of PA residents on the consumption of pool water, sadly, are not always safe for work.

And not everyone considered it an issue.

“I don’t see why drinking pool water’s so bad—it’s only a wee problem,” said one PA resident.
