SUNY Sullivan launches Educational Opportunity Program for fall semester

LOCH SHELDRAKE, NY — SUNY Sullivan is now offering the State University of New York’s Educational Opportunity Program (EOP), an academic and financial program providing an avenue for admission and support for eligible students who have not yet reached their academic potential due to educational or economic barriers.

Students who are accepted into EOP at SUNY Sullivan will receive proven, tailored support services to aid them in their college journey, including academic and career advisement, individual and group tutoring, personal counseling, modest financial support, and a pre-freshman summer program experience.

EOP is a multifaceted academic and student enrichment program for students who have demonstrated their potential to academically and personally succeed at SUNY Sullivan, despite economic or social barriers. The goal of the program is to increase the number of students from first-generation, historically underrepresented, and low-income populations who enter graduate and professional programs. EOP enrolls more than 2,500 first-time, full-time freshmen each year, and boasts more than 85,000 proud alumni. It is one of the highest performing college access programs in the country.

“This program is a well-established and widely-successful SUNY initiative, and we are thrilled to bring it to the SUNY Sullivan campus to help our community and our students,” Director of EOP Esther Fitzgerald said. “This program’s purpose is to foster confidence in these students and motivate them toward success.”

Prospective students must meet residential, academic and income eligibility criteria to apply for EOP. Once accepted into EOP, students are required to attend the pre-freshman summer program (during which they must take at least three college credits, participate in tutoring and academic counseling, and attend all workshops).
