LAKE ARIEL, PA — Like clockwork, ospreys (Pandion haliaetus) return every spring from over-wintering sites in the tropics to watery areas up north—rivers, lakes and Lacawac Sanctuary—to begin another busy breeding season and then raise a feathered family.
Ospreys are among the first birds to migrate north from the tropics to start nesting. So Lacawac Sanctuary is calling on runners, walkers and anyone else to help welcome back the Lacawac osprey with a spring 5K run/walk, to be held on Saturday, April 20; start time is 9 a.m.
Each year, the ospreys return to their nesting platform high above Heron Pond along the Big Lake Trail and across from Lacawac’s Education Center.
Proceeds of the run/walk will benefit the upkeep and maintenance of Lacawac’s Browning Beaver Meadow Sanctuary, a former sanctuary of the NEPA Audubon Society.
