LIVINGSTON MANOR, NY — On April 27, the Livingston Manor/Roscoe (LM/R) athletic department hosted its annual Wildcats Baseball and Softball Tournament at Manor—attracting several hundred fans.

In the opening round of varsity hardball, LM/R faced the Bulldogs of Sullivan West, who defeated the home team, 5-3. Meanwhile, Deposit-Hancock conquered Liberty with a score of 11-1.

In a previous game on April 24, Evan Ebert pitched a no-hitter for Sullivan West against the Fallsburg Comets, earning the 20-0 win in a “mercy” game that was called after five frames.

In the next field over, the Lady Wildcats took on the Lady Indians of Liberty in the first round of varsity softball matchups. Liberty emerged victorious with a score of 10-2.

At the end of the tourney, the Deposit-Hancock Eagles were crowned varsity baseball champions, while Sullivan West’s Lady Bulldogs took the brass ring as varsity softball gold medalists.

The award-winning scholar athletes are:

Softball—Angie Wheeler (Liberty)

Elizabeth Reeves (Sullivan West)

Baseball—Jacob Hubert (Sullivan West)

Tyler Reis (Deposit-Hancock)

The event was supported by the New York State Police, the Sullivan County Sheriff’s Office and the Livingston Manor Volunteer Ambulance Corps—the dedicated volunteers known for their credo “You fall, we haul.”

On the hardball side of the plate, Manor’s varsity squad had a record of 3-11. According to second-year coach Dylan Smith, they are looking to improve this season while building for next year.

Seniors on the team include Hunter Banks, Anthony Zamenick, Aden Johnson, Robert Buck and Levi Werner, with Johnson and Zamenick serving as team captains.

“We got off to a semi-good start in the first inning, but then Sullivan West came back and put the ball in play, and we had some errors,” said Smith after the game. “We had a chance to come back in the seventh, had a couple of guys on base, but we just couldn’t get a run.”

For the 2023-24 season of swats at Manor, they are minus a junior varsity team, and only field modified and varsity squads.

Looking ahead to the future, Smith said, “We have a lot of younger guys coming up next year, and we want to build up this program up to the potential it has to be.”
