LIVINGSTON MANOR, NY — On June 12, the Wildcats of Livingston Manor High School held the 2023 Spring and End of Year modified/varsity athletic awards presentation.

It featured the home team scholar athletes from the combined Livingston Manor and Roscoe “Blue Devils” sports programs.

“Being part of an athletics program is a privilege,” said David Eggleton, athletic director of the merged sports programs. “Athletics here at Livingston Manor and Roscoe are an extension of the academic environment… supported by both districts, because they contribute to the overall development of our students’ physical, social and mental well-being.”

He noted that one of the “biggest concepts discussed in education today is social emotional learning,” and that “athletics is a way for students to enhance their social emotional learning, and learn concepts that will positively help them in life.”

Eggleton listed several noteworthy highlights of the year, including six night events and contests at both districts, six basketball tournaments, three baseball/softball tournaments, along with two athletes who qualified and competed at the state qualifiers for track and field.

As he presented the 2022-2023 Livingston Manor Athlete of the Year Award (Male) to Daniel Tolbert, Eggleton said the 18-year-old senior “has received many honors from the start of the year all the way to the finish.” He noted that Daniel had been part of the varsity football program and the varsity basketball program for years.

“He received the team award for Most Valuable Player for Class C and D. His excitement for athletics and good relationship with younger Wildcats stands out,” Eggleton said.

After the awards ceremony was won and done, Tolbert said of his experience in Manor athletics, “It was great, all these folks for years, all my friends to play with… Now I get to move ahead and play in college.”

As a Wildcat, he competed in football as a utility player in “every single position Coach wanted me to,” along with anchoring first base in baseball.

After graduation, Tolbert plans to play the game of hoops with the SUNY Sullivan Generals “wherever Coach needs me.”

Mackenzie Carlson was tabbed for the 2022-2023 Livingston Manor Athlete of the Year Award (Female). She has been part of the varsity basketball and varsity softball programs for four years, receiving team awards for MVP in basketball and MVP in softball.

Last year, she was also awarded the softball MVP, thus earning a hat-trick of softball MVPs.

In addition, Carlson was named Varsity 845’s Player of the Week this year in softball, and was a Section IX Top 50 team player in basketball.

“I’m thankful for everything I’ve gotten,” said the 17-year-old senior, who is headed to Oswego State to play center field after her high school career on the mound and as a small forward in basketball.

“I’ve gotten so much out of it,” said Carlson about participating in high school athletics. “As a player, working with a team… it set me up for a future in college sports.”
