Liberty man arrested for menacing, criminal weapons possession

LIBERTY, NY -- On Friday, February 2, at approximately 9:16 a.m., the Village of Liberty Police Department responded to the area of Spring Street for report of a male threatening someone with a firearm and fleeing the scene in a black Toyota.  The caller said he and the suspect had gotten into a verbal dispute, which resulted in the suspect pointing a firearm at him.
 
Liberty police officers were able to locate the reported vehicle and the suspect on Spring Street near the intersection of Edgar Street. Officers ordered the suspect out of the vehicle at gunpoint and safely detained the suspect. 
 
The suspect was identified as Anthony Jackson, 44, of Liberty. Officers took Jackson into custody without incident.
 
Investigation into the circumstances of the incident resulted in officers locating a black airsoft rifle in Jackson's residence. Jackson was charged with second-degree menacing, a misdemeanor; and third-degree criminal possession of a weapon, a class D felony. Jackson was arraigned at the Town of Liberty Court by the Honorable Judge Johnstone and remanded to Sullivan County Jail without bail.
